Our Mission

The mission at St. Luke’s Center is to provide a foundation of Christian knowledge and skills within a nurturing environment that promotes development and self confidence, encourages love of learning, and celebrate the uniqueness of each person and God’s creations. At St. Luke’s classroom rules will be simple and create a structure that is the basis for learning. An essential part of education is enabling a child to develop self-control and self-discipline. We encourage our children to use their words to talk about their feelings, and to make responsible choices that they are confident about.

At St. Luke’s we use a creative curriculum. We believe that children learn best by doing, and not by just repeating what someone says. Teachers encourage children to use their active imaginations and creativity to confidently solve problems and explore new ideas. When children play, we believe they begin to learn the foundation of learning by growing at their own pace, a positive sense of self, and valuable habits and attitudes. On top of our curriculum, St. Luke’s Learning Center will teach zoo phonics preparing children for Kindergarten with their reading readiness skills. Zoo phonics allows the children to actively learn their letter sounds while pretending to be their favorite zoo animals.

The goals of our curriculum are to promote development socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Socially we want students to feel comfortable in school, trust their environment and teachers, and feel like they are part of a group. Emotionally, our goal is to help children experience pride and self-confidence while developing their self-control and a positive attitude towards life. Cognitively our teachers strive to help children become confident learners by letting them try their own ideas to experience success. By aiding the children, they will acquire learning skills they need such as problem solving, question asking, and words to describe their ideas, observations, and emotions. Our physical goal is to help children develop and strengthen their large and small muscle skills while feeling confident about what their growing bodies can do. The way St. Luke’s teachers plan activities, materials, and toys are all designed to accomplish our goals and give children a successful start in school.

Riley County and the State of Kansas licensing requirements are met by St. Luke’s Learning Center and staff. Both morning and afternoon class sessions provide a healthy snack by the center, which can also be provided by the parents. There are assigned show-and-tell days. Full time students are required to bring a sack lunch that meets the requirements of State regulations. Parents can, but are not required, to bring a healthy snack at school during their child’s show and tell. Parents and grandparents are always welcome to visit the classroom and assist with arts and crafts, field trips, and other activities. Our family oriented program encourages family members to share their time and talents within the classroom. The congregation, parents, and teachers working together greatly enhance the program and its opportunities.

Enrollment

St. Luke’s is a SRS and Raising Riley supporter that provides a developed learning environment with professional leadership for children ages 2.5 to 5 years of age during the school year. The school year is from the beginning of August to the middle of June. Enrollment is provided all year, as long as there are openings. At St. Luke’s we have many options available. We have full time, half days, and part time class options. After receiving notification of acceptance from the director, the parents must have the application for enrollment completed and returned to the learning center before a child may begin classes. We strive for positive teacher parent partnerships and plan to keep parents updated on school information, health concerns, and even public events.
