Pastor Crawford is a caring, Bible-believing, 3rd career Lutheran pastor. He leads weekend worship services at Christ Lutheran Manhattan/and Zion Lutheran, Latimer KS. He teaches an Adult Bible Study on Sunday morning and the Confirmation (7th and 8th grade) Catechism class on Wednesdays during the school year. He visits the hospitalized and shut-ins. He meets with the members and non-members alike. He also leads the LCMS U Bible Study on Tuesday evening in the Bible Learning Center better known as the Blue House to know and guide our college students.
Pastor Crawford likes being involved in the circuit meetings held once a month with other LCMS pastors in the area. He attends the elders meeting, and the council meetings at St. Luke’s as well, to keep the church abreast of what is happening with Campus Ministry here at St. Luke’s.
Pastor was born and raised in Berkeley, MO near St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Berkeley public school system. Pastor Crawford had wanted to attend the Seminary when he was 19; that didn’t work out. He graduated in 1966 from Berkeley, and joined the work force at McDonald Douglas Air Craft in St. Louis MO. He was unable to get promoted at his job unless he had his military obligation behind him. He joined the United States Army with the plan of only serving 3 years and stayed for 20 years and 11 days. He then retired from the Army and went to work in the food service industry as an assistant manager.
Pastor Crawford has also spent time in non-church related activities and organizations. He liked performing in plays, and being Master of Ceremonies for different functions in town. He earned his B.S. in Speech, Drama, and Theater at Kansas State University (KSU) in1998.
Before attending seminary, Pastor attended KSU, and attended the first class of Lay Deacon Certification at the Kansas District Office in Topeka. He was then called by St. Luke’s to be a Certified Deacon, and the Campus Missionary. In 2007 he was accepted at St. Louis Concordia University in the last DELTO (Distant Education Leading To Ordination), and the first class of SMP (Specific Ministry Pastor) for Campus Ministry. Pastor Crawford graduated with a General Pastoral Degree to preach the Word and Sacrament.
His first call in 2012 was to a dual parish for Christ Lutheran, Manhattan, and Zion Lutheran Latimer, KS. He was called to be the Sole Pastor. Having been the Campus Missionary for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church here in Manhattan, he was contracted to continue and spends his time with college students and visits congregations around KS for monetary support. Pastor Crawford also attends district conventions and conferences to promote Campus Ministry across Kansas.
He married his wife Sinok, in 1969; they have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with one another and being involved in the two congregations trying new activities for others to enjoy.
Pastor Crawford likes to meet with all the new students that come to Manhattan to attend college and get to know them, no matter what college they are attending. Hopefully you and he will be able to get connected to keep Christ at the center of your life.
