Gretchen Hartsook

Gretchen was born in Great Lakes, Illinois, the first child of Heidi and Scott. With her father being in the Army, they moved to San Antonio, Texas before she was one and to Fort Knox, Kentucky when she was two where her sister, Hannah, was born. They moved to Frankfurt, Germany where Gretchen attended kindergarten through 2nd grade. In 1994, they moved the Manhattan where she has lived since. Throughout school, Gretchen enjoyed being in dance classes, taking piano lessons, and participating in musicals and youth group. Her first jobs were babysitting and running the concession stands at the ballpark and pool. After graduating high school in 2004, she spend the next 5.5 years attending Kansas State University, double majoring in Music Education and Elementary Education. In 2007, she started teaching private piano lessons. She became the Director of Music at St. Luke’s in March 2009. After graduating from K-State in December 2009, Gretchen substitute taught, including two long-term positions where the teachers were on maternity leave. She landed her first full-time teaching job in Wamego at Central Elementary teaching Kindergarten-2nd grade general music. After two years there, she switched to Lee Elementary in Manhattan in 2013 where she is still teaching general music. She bought her 108-year-old house in August 2012. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Music Education also from K-State. She married her husband, Ian, July 25th, 2015. They have a dog-child yellow lab named Finnegan.
